LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior
Hudson Pokorny (Darien, Conn. / Darien) tallied a team-high five points and scored the game-ending goal with 1:54 remaining in the first overtime period to lift the No. 17 Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team to a thrilling 11-10 comeback win over seventh-ranked York (Pa.).
After the Spartans (0-1) scored with 17 seconds left in the third quarter to take a 10-6 lead, W&L (1-0) senior
Will Schnorr (Paoli, Pa. / Conestoga) gave the Generals life with an answer with just 1.1 left before the end of the period.
In the fourth, the Generals had three different scorers tally all three team goals to ultimately tie the game. Sophomores
Joey Allen (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga) and
Hillis Burns (Louisville, Ky. / St. Xavier) had the first two goals, respectively, each coming in the first five minutes of the quarter to get the Generals back within one goal. It wasn't until 47 seconds remained in regulation that Schnorr scored again to tie the game at 10-10.
Just under two minutes into the extra period, sophomore
Jack Elliott (Suffolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) fired on net, but his attempt sailed high. W&L retained possession, and Pokorny took matters into his own hands and found the back of the net to complete the come-from-behind win.
The Spartans opened the game strong by scoring each of the first three goals and even jumped out to a 7-2 lead at the 11:15 mark of the second quarter. Pokorny logged the next goal, his first of the game, with 7:00 left before halftime, which kickstarted the final 9-3 W&L run.
Pokorny's five points came on his two goals with an added three assists to lead the Blue and White offense. Allen led the team with four goals and eight shot attempts, in addition to picking up four ground balls to tie for the team high. Other multi-goal scorers included Schnorr (2) and Burns (2), who assisted on another score for three total points.

Will Bou (Chevy Chase, Md. / Landon) tied Allen with four ground balls, while four other Generals picked up multiple ground balls. Two of those players, first-year
Colin Beatty (Summit, N.J. / Summit) and senior
Boots Lackey (Alexandria, Va. / The Heights School), logged one assist each on offense with Lackey also causing a pair of turnovers on the defensive end. In goal, first-year
Ryan Boyd (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) (1-0) earned the win after making three saves across all 62:06 of game time.
The Spartans were paced on offense by Ben Mayer and Will Harnick, who tallied four points each. Harnick scored four times, while Mayer scored twice and assisted on two other scores. Ames Clark and Jackson Shields rounded out the YCP players with multiple points, as Ames notched three assists to a goal and an assist for Shields.
York's face-off man, Vinny Facciponti, won 13-of-23 face-offs for the game and picked up a game-high seven ground balls. Goalkeeper Ian Callinan (0-1) added five ground balls to his 12 saves in net, covering the duration of the contest between the pipes. Nick Biava caused a team-high two turnovers and Brent Blackmon came away with four ground balls.
For the game, W&L outshot York by a 38-26 margin and committed four fewer turnovers the Spartans.
The Generals will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Catholic for a 4:00 pm start in the first of three straight road games.
