Women's Track and Field has Strong Showing at Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - The Washington and Lee University Women's track and field team competed at the Joe LaRocco Invitational hosted by Roanoke College on Saturday. The Generals posted 20 top-8 finishes and nine personal bests were recorded on the home site of the 2023 ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in the Cregger Center. 

Katelyn Gamble (Houston, Texas / Kinkaid) posted a first and second place finish in the 60 and 200 meter dashes. She was the top finisher in the 60m with a time of 7.74 seconds and came in second in the 200m at 26.01 seconds. 

Parker Hawk (Dallas, Texas/ Hockaday) was the first to cross the finish line in the 800 meter run in 2:21.77, Adia Vera (Kyle, Texas / Jack C. Hays) came in behind Hawk in fourth place at 2:30.12, a personal best for the event. 

Sarah Teagle (Glouscester, Va. / Hampton Roads), Jordynn Palethorpe (Barrington, R.I. / Barrington), Paige Tulenko (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel), Amanda Romano (Denville, N.J. / Mount Saint Mary Academy) made up the 4x400 meter relay team that came in first place after posting a 4:12.95 finish.

In field events, Madelyn Venable (Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) had the furthest long jump of the meet, 5.27 meters (No. 3 All-Time), the second-longest triple jump (10.65 meters) and placed second on the track in the 60 meter hurdles. Venable's time of 9.20 seconds is good for #2 in the program's all-time list. 

Parker Longood (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's School) followed Venable's long jump mark with a distance of 5:03 meters for a second place finish. 

Bailey Hedgemond (Atlanta, Ga. / Atlanta Girl's School) posted a pair of top-8 finishes in the throwing circle with a 6th place showing in the shot put with her toss of 10.78 meters
