Women's Swimming action 2023

No. 23 Generals Breeze by Knights, 186-63

LEXINGTON, Va. - The 23rd-ranked Washington and Lee University women's swimming team defeated the Knights of Southern Virginia 186-83 on Friday evening at the W&L Natatorium. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Blue and White won 12 of the 14 events to notch their third win of the season. Ten individual events were won by eight different swimmers while both relay teams finished in first in their respective events. 
  • Lauren Helminiak, Clara Attar, Bella Tarbet and Myla Rice got the Generals off to a good start as they claimed gold in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.07. Helminiak, Rice and Tarbet teamed up with Brynn Martinson in the 200 freestyle relay, the quartet posted the second-best time in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) with a time of 1:39.47. 
  • Martinson, a Charlotte, N.C. native, posted two individual wins for the Generals as she posted an ODAC-best 1:58.78 in the 200 free, shaving almost one full second off her previous season-best. She also finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.88. 
  • Maria Jellig won both of the events she swam in today, claiming gold in both the 100 and 200 backstroke. Jellig, a sophomore from Haddonfield, N.J., posted a 1:02.38 in the 100 while finishing with a time of 2:13.84 in the 200. 
  • Sophia Rollo posted an ODAC-best 2:13.28 in the 200 IM. Ruth Crane, Paige McBoyle, Haley Robinson, Katelyn Crawford and Attar each recorded one win for the Blue and White. 
FIRST-PLACE FINISHERS  UP NEXT
  • The 23rd-ranked Generals take their first road trip of the season as they travel to Lancaster, Pa. for the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. The first day of action will kick off at 10 a.m on Friday, Nov. 17 and the invitational will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 19.
