FERRUM, Va. – Junior
Emma Mansfield accounted for three-first half goals, as the Washington and Lee women's soccer team cruised past Ferrum, 5-0, on the road on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Two of the Generals' three first-half goals came in a 69-minute span within the 14th and 15th minutes. The first came on a corner kick 13:40 into the game, that found first-year
Amelia Manke just outside the far post. Manke played the ball back into Mansfield in the middle of the box, who hit a one-touch volley to find sophomore
Helen Otteni for the opening score.
In the 15th minute, Manke and Mansfield teamed up once again, as Mansfield's fourth goal of the season gave the Generals a 2-0 lead.
The W&L lead swelled to three in the 33rd minute when Mansfield took control of the ball near midfield and made a run up the center of the pitch. Mansfield then passed to sophomore
Sarah Zimmerman, who took one touch to settle before she slotted a left-footed shot into the top-left corner of the frame.
Sophomore
Bryn Bissinger got on the scoreboard in the 51st minute when she took a shot from just inside the box, that took a slight deflection off a defender and made its way through the defense and inside the left post for the score. First-year
Gracie Jorgensen put the finishing touches on the five-goal win in the 88th minute when she intercepted a pass from a Ferrum defender to the goalkeeper, made a move around the keeper and put the ball just inside the right post.
TOP PERFORMERS:
Mansfield finished the day with four points on one goal and two assists, while taking one shot. Manke came in next with a pair of assists, while Otteni, Zimmerman and Bissinger all scored once and took multiple shots.
Senior

Ashlynn Mitcham and Aubrie Hixon led the Ferrum offense with two shots each, and they combined for three attempts on goal. Ashli Wuss played all 90 minutes in goal for the Panthers and made eight saves.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
Zimmerman's goal was her sixth of the season which now leads the team and ranks 10th in the ODAC. Her point total increased to 17 in the process, which is good for eighth in the conference.
