Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 29th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team concluded fall competition on Sunday with three more rounds of tennis at the Lehigh Invitational, two of which featured doubles play.
ROUND 1 vs. LAFAYETTE:
The Generals opened the day with a clean sweep of Lafayette in doubles. Five matches were played, and three were handled comfortably by Blue and White pairs. Senior
Gabi Moss and sophomore
Lauren Long dropped just two games in a 6-2 victory, while senior
Margaret Carlton and sophomore
Annie Jennings, along with junior
Meagan Donovan and sophomore
Isabella Custard, each won by 6-2 scores.
Seniors
Kaitlyn Chalker and
Izzy Koziol avoided a tiebreak against Ally Bauer and Stella Dodd with a 7-5 win, while sophomore
Grace Lorenz and first-year
Haley Stoltz went into a tiebreak against Hanna Ganchi and Mia Hernandez. Once in the breaker, Lorenz and Stoltz dispatched the Leopard pair by a 7-3 score to secure the 7-6 win.
ROUND 2 vs. LEHIGH:
In the second round of play of the day, W&L took 2-of-7 singles matches against the Division I host. Stoltz each picked up her second wins of the day, and did so in straight-set fashion, sailing past Audrey Harrington, 6-0, 6-2. The other Generals' win came from sophomore
Riho Iijima, who battled back against Hannah Letzer after dropping the first set, 6-1, to take the second, 6-3, and the third-set tiebreaker, 10-7.
Lorenz fought hard in her match against Megha Dania, but ultimately fell in three sets. Lorenz and Dania pushed each other into double digits in the third-set break, but Dania finished off the win, 12-10, to go along with a 6-2 advantage in the first set.
ROUND 3 vs. RIDER
The Generals dropped 3-of-4 doubles matches against Rider to close out the Lehigh Invitational. The lone win came from Chalker and sophomore
Jordan Kach, who defeated Jett Coetzee and Andrea Sydow, 6-1. Carlton and Stoltz took their opposition into a tiebreak, but they fell by a final score of 7-6 (9-7).
TOP PERFORMERS:
Two Generals won two matches each on the day, with Chalker going 2-0 to lead the Blue and White. Stoltz played in all three rounds on Sunday, and she posted a 2-1 record.
UP NEXT:
This concludes fall competition for the W&L women's tennis team this season. The Generals will return to action on February 16 in a home match against Shenandoah.
