WLU Swim vs CMU

No. 12 Carnegie Mellon Defeats No. 23 Women’s Swimming, 159-101

LEXINGTON, Va. - On Saturday afternoon the No. 23 Washington and Lee University women's swimming team fell to No. 12 Carnegie Mellon University 159-101 inside the W&L Natatorium. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Generals won five of the 14 events on Saturday. 
  • Riley Moorman recorded the first win for the Blue and White on Saturday with a 2:00.53 time in the 200 free. Moorman edged out Alice Yueah by a quarter of a second for the top spot and took fifth in the 500 free (5:30.17) to total 10 points for the team score. 
  • Senior Brynn Martinson led the way for the Generals with a pair of wins in the 50 free (24.26) and 100 free (53.95). Martinson contributed 33 points to the team score thanks to the two individual wins and a pair of scoring relay teams. 
  • Martinson led off the winning 200 free relay team of Lauren Helminiak, Bella Tarbet and Myla Rice (1:39.06). The win in the last event of the meet broke the 100 point mark for W&L's team scoring. 
  • W&L's 200 medley relay A team of Sophia Rollo, Amelia Macholz, Tarbet, and anchored by Martinson, took second in a time of 1:50.52. 
  • Junior Bella Tarbet came in first place in the 100 butterfly (58.91) and placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:12.24).
  • First-year Lauren Helminiak added seven individual points to the team scoring with a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:00.85) and finished third in the 200 backstroke (2:12.22). 
  • Junior Myla Rice added three solo event top-5 finishes for eight points and Sophia Rollo tallied five points off three individual finishes.

  • Brynn Martinson - 100 Freestyle (53.95); 50 Freestyle (24.26)
  • Bella Tarbet - 100 Butterfly (58.91)
