No. 23 Women’s Swimming Dominates Dual Meet against UMW

LEXINGTON, Va. - Competing in their second meet of the season, the No. 23 Washington and Lee University women's swimming team defeated the University of Mary Washington 177-85 on Saturday afternoon inside the W&L Natatorium. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Generals won ten of the 14 events to claim a dominating victory over the Eagles. Seven different swimmers combined to win nine individual events while four Generals teamed up to win a relay event. 
  • Senior Brynn Martinson led the way for the Generals as she had a hand in three wins, including the 50 free (24.32) and 200 free (1:59.65). She also swam on the 200 free relay team who posted a 1:39.56 time to claim the top spot. 
  • Junior Bella Tarbet came in first place in the 100 butterfly (59.89) and the 200 butterfly (2:13.30). She was also a part of the 200 free relay team. First-year Lauren Helminiak claimed the top spot in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.50 while being the anchor on the 200 free relay team
  • Junior Myla Rice had her hand in two wins as she finished first in the 100 free with a 53.61 while swimming with Martinson, Tarbet and Helminiak in the 200 free. Maria Jellig, Tess Deyerle and Riley Moorman each finished in first in their respective events. 
FIRST-PLACE FINISHERS  UP NEXT
  • The 23rd-ranked Generals host No. 12 Carnegie Mellon next Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. inside the W&L Natatorium.
