FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Junior Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) and first-year Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) made their way into the championship match in the doubles bracket on Sunday to clinch a trip to the ITA Cup in October.
 
The pair had to fight in the semifinals, but ultimately defeated the Mary Washington duo of Hana Kimmey and Amanda Hagino by an 8-7 (7-5) score to clinch a spot in the ITA Cup from October 13-16 in Rome, Ga. It marks the second straight season that the W&L women's tennis team will be represented at the ITA Cup, after junior Gabi Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral) earned a spot in the singles bracket last season.
 
In the championship match of the doubles bracket, Carlton and Long took the first set from Carnegie Mellon's Danna Taylor and Crystal Zhou by a 7-5 score. However, Taylor and Zhou rebounded to win the second set, 6-2, and later secured the match with a 10-8 third-set score to upend Carlton and Long.
 
Senior Marta Mikos (Willowbrook, Ill. / Hinsdale South) and Moss were also in action on the final day of the ITA Southeast Region Championships. Mikos played in the semifinal match of the Championship Singles bracket, but fell to Zhou, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
 
Moss was slated to face-off against Carlton in the quarterfinals of the Championship Singles Consolation bracket, but moved into the semifinals after a withdrawal from Carlton. Moss went on to win the next two matches to win the bracket. She downed UMW's Amanda Hagino, 8-6, before topping Carnegie Mellon's Zoe Angell, 8-4, in the championship.
