FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The 21st-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team saw four doubles teams and four individuals advance through the first two rounds of play at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday.

Seniors Marta Mikos (Willowbrook, Ill. / Hinsdale South) and Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton), junior Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) and first-year Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) all had perfect 4-0 days across singles and doubles play to start the tournament. Mikos and Koziol played as a pair in the championship doubles bracket, earning a first-round bye before claiming an 8-3 win over Alison Bader and Niamh Harding of Johns Hopkins.
 
In singles play, both players secured two straight-set victories each, with Mikos downing Jenna Harrison of Franklin & Marshall, 6-4, 6-4, and Danna Taylor of Carnegie Mellon, 6-4, 6-2. Koziol cruised through singles, dropping only five games in two straight-set wins over Mackenzie Sherman of F&M and Dickinson's Martine Fierro.
 
Waters paired with first-year Riho Iijima (Portland, Ore. / Westview) in doubles play, as the two used a bye in the Round of 64 and an 8-7 (7-5) win over Sarah Yang and Bin Zheng of Carnegie Mellon in the Round of 32 to remain in the championship bracket. Long, along with junior Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian), also received a first-round bye and went on to best Anna Chow and Divya Venkatarama of Carnegie Mellon, 8-7 (7-5), to move on to day two.
 
Individually, Waters and Long also claimed two-set wins to join Koziol and Mikos in the Round of 16 on Saturday. Waters earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tessa Trate of Christopher Newport and a 6-3, 6-1, victory over Rebecca Stapleman of Mary Washington. Long topped Amanda Hagino of UMW by a 7-5, 6-2 score, followed by Malikaa Marathe of CMU, 6-4, 6-3.
 
Junior Kaitlyn Chalker (Kennesaw, Ga. / Rivers Academy) made her way through the Blue A Singles bracket, and advanced to Saturday's championship match, after she defeated Nikhita Simhambhatla of Sweet Briar, 8-4, and Stephanie Untermeyer of Stevens, 8-2.
 
Chalker and first-year Jordan Kach (Warrenton, Va. / Seton School) were the only doubles pairing of W&L's six to compete in the Round of 64, and they advanced to the Round of 32 with an 8-5 victory over Agatha Malinowski and Untermeyer of Stevens. The pair bowed out in the next round, however, 8-4.
 
Iijima and first-year Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Epic Charter Schools) each won their first match in the championship singles bracket, before falling in the Round of 32. Iijima defeated Niamh Harding of Johns Hopkins, 6-3, 3-6, 12-10, while Lorenz topped Summer Williams of Swarthmore by a 6-2, 6-0 margin.
