LEXINGTON, Va. – The 21st-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team opened its 2022-23 season with a 9-0 sweep of ODAC foe Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Gracie Caplice (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's School) and first-year
Karolina Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral) claimed the first victory of the day, 8-0, from the No. 3 doubles spot. Junior
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) and first-year
Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor), along with junior
Kaitlyn Chalker (Kennesaw, Ga. / Rivers Academy) and first-year
Jordan Kach (Warrenton, Va. / Seton School) then secured 8-4 victories at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
Singles play was highlighted by junior
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) (2), sophomore
Meagan Donovan (Jacksonville, Fla. / The Bolles School) (5) and first-year
Isabella Custard (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal School of Dallas) (6), who all won by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
First-years
Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Epic Charter Schools) (1) and
Riho Iijima (Portland, Ore. / Westview) (3), along with senior
Marta Mikos (Willowbrook, Ill. / Hinsdale South) (4) rounded out the winners for the Generals, as each player dropped no more than just two games in the three straight-set victories.
The Generals will return to the courts on Wednesday when they will split between a road contest at Randolph (4:00 pm) and a home match against Lynchburg (4:00 pm).
