Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 18 and top-seeded Washington and Lee women's tennis team took down fourth-seeded Shenandoah by a 5-0 score in the ODAC Semifinals on Saturday.
The Generals move to 14-6 overall with the win, while the Hornets fall to 10-5 overall with the loss.
A forfeit at No. 3 doubles was followed by W&L wins at No. 1 from senior
Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) and sophomore
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) and at No. 2 from sophomores
Nell Covington (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) and
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton). Garcia and Carlton defeated Natalia Garcia Molina and Jahveesha Combs, 8-3, while Covington and Koziol did not drop a game.
The W&L lead moved to 4-0 after a Shenandoah forfeit at No. 6 singles. Junior
Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) then clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Allison Cherwein at No. 4.
The Generals advance to the ODAC Championship match on Sunday in Lexington, where they will face-off against the winner of the Sweet Briar/Lynchburg semifinal at 1:00 pm.
