Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to 13th-ranked Mary Washington on Sunday afternoon in Lexington.
The Generals fall to 9-4 overall with the loss, while the Eagles improve to 8-4 overall with the win.
Sophomore
Gabi Moss (Paradise Valley, Ariz. / Chaparral), junior
Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and sophomore
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) posted singles wins for W&L. Moss led at No. 3 with a win by retirement, after being up on Lauren Quinn, 6-0, 3-0. Waters rebounded after dropping the opening set at No. 4 to notch a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win, while Carlton defeated Emily Beckner, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6.
The Eagles claimed all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play. Abby Moghtader, Claire Coleman and Hana Kimmey were all part of two wins each for UMW.
Junior
Marta Mikos (Willowbrook, Ill. / Hinsdale South) forced her singles match to a tiebreak in the third set at No. 5, before falling to Kimmey, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).
The Generals will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Lynchburg for a 4:00 pm road contest.
