LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's tennis team coasted to its fifth straight victory, defeating Guilford College by a score of 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Lower Courts.
In doubles action, the Generals' top team of first-years
Will Kistler (Hilton Head, S.C. / Laurel Springs School) and
Eli Hirshberg (Alpharetta, Ga. / Johns Creek) and the No. 3 team of sophomore
Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala. / Briarwood Christian) and first-year
James Kurani (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence Day) all produced 8-0 victories.
In singles, W&L claimed all six matches in straight sets, led by first-year
Evan Erb's (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) 6-1, 6-1 win over Jay Montague at the No. 1 position. Coleman also cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tye Sasser at No. 5 singles.
W&L is now 7-8 overall and 6-0 in ODAC play. The Generals are currently on a streak of 48 consecutive regular-season conference victories. Guilford fell to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in league action.
Washington and Lee will now break for finals and will return to play on Saturday, April 16 with a match against Lynchburg College at the Crosswhite Athletic Club. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
