HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its 2021-22 College Division All-State Men's Indoor Track and Field teams on Friday, and senior
Joe O'Connor (Henrico, Va./Douglas Freeman) led W&L's honorees with a first team selection.
O'Connor earned his first team distinction in the jumps category. Sophomore
Mark Waller (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook) claimed a second team selection, also in the jumps section, while junior
Doug Dracon (Matthews, N.C./Weddington), sophomore
Zach Moore (Advance, N.C./Forsyth Country Day School) and first-years
Luke Avigliano (Madison, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and
George Marable (Aransas Pass, Texas/Rockport-Fulton) earned second team laurels for the 4x400 relay category.
O'Connor qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in the pole vault, where he went on to place second with a mark of 5.05m (16'6.75") to earn All-America laurels. O'Connor also won the pole vault at the ODAC Indoor Championship, clearing 4.70m (15'5.00") for his third career indoor pole vault title. He also added a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.82m [5'11.50"]) at the indoor conference meet.
Waller earned his spot on the All-State Second Team after claiming an All-ODAC Second Team accolade for his second-place finish in the high jump at the indoor conference meet. He cleared a career-best 1.90m (6'2.75"), which also helped him earn his first career all-region citation.
The team of Dracon, Moore, Avigliano and Marable received their All-State laurel in the 4x400m relay with a top time of 3:25.66 this season, which they set on February 12 at the VMI Winter Classic. The quartet also earned all-region honors in the event.
