Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The No. 13 Washington and Lee women's tennis team was defeated by a 7-2 score by No. 17 Case Western Reserve on Sunday to close out the Blue/Gray Invite at Mary Washington.
With the loss, the Generals fall to 7-3 overall this season while the Spartans improve to 12-1 overall with the win.
Junior
Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and first-year
Meagan Donovan (Jacksonville, Fla. / The Bolles School) picked up the two wins for the Generals. Waters defeated Maddie Giss, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 4 singles and Donovan bested Pallavi Goculelas by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 6.
The Spartans won all three doubles matches to begin the day, but Waters and sophomore
Nell Covington (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) forced Radha Patel and Katherine Wong to a tiebreak at No. 3 before falling, 8-7 (8-6). Senior
Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) also went to a tiebreak at No. 1 singles, but was defeated by Hannah Kassaie, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6).
The Generals will return to action on Wednesday when they host Centre at 4:00 pm.
