Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team lost a close match against No. 18 Kenyon, 5-4, on Saturday at the Blue/Gray Invite hosted by Mary Washington.
 
The Generals fall to 7-2 overall this season with the loss, while the Ladies improve to 5-6 overall.
 
The Ladies won all three doubles matches, but two were forced to tiebreakers. Daria Beshentseva and Eleni Dakos defeated senior Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) and sophomore Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton), 8-7 (7-5), at the top spot and Erika Pontillo and Anna Winslow bested sophomore Kaitlyn Chalker (Kennesaw, Ga. / Rivers Academy) and junior Marta Mikos (Willowbrook, Ill. / Hinsdale South) at No. 2. In No. 3, junior Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and sophomore Nell Covington (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) keep things close, but ultimately fell by an 8-6 score.
 
W&L claimed 4-of-6 singles matches, led by Koziol who defeated Dakos by a 6-2, 6-1 score at No. 2. Mikos (3), Waters (4) and first-year Meagan Donovan (Jacksonville, Fla. / The Bolles School) (6) also won their singles matches, with Mikos and Donovan pulling out straight-set victories.
 
The Generals will return for the second day of the Blue/Gray Invite on Sunday when they battle No. 17 Case Western Reserve at 10:00 am.
