LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 35th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team was felled by No. 20 Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon at the Upper Courts by a score of 7-2.
The Eagles handled the Generals in the doubles competition, carrying a 3-0 lead into singles play, where W&L would take two of the matches and fall in three sets in one other match.
Junior
Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y. / Chaminade) notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andrew Watson at No. 3 singles and first-year
Eli Hirshberg (Alpharetta, Ga. / Johns Creek) recorded a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Cole Tecce at No. 4 singles. At the No. 2 position, first-year
Will Kistler (Hilton Head, S.C. / Laurel Springs School) took Rishi Charan Shanker to a third set before suffering a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) setback. Sophomore
Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala. / Briarwood Christian) also played a close match with Nick Spera at No. 5 singles, falling 6-4, 7-6 (1).
Washington and Lee is now 2-8 overall, while Mary Washington moved to 6-2.
The Generals are back in action on Wednesday when they host Southern Virginia for a 3:00 pm match.
