Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team returned to action after a nine-day layoff with a 6-3 win on the road against Sweet Briar on Tuesday.
The Generals improve to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the ODAC with the win, while the Vixens fall to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
W&L claimed two of the three doubles matches, as sophomores
Nell Covington (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) won, 8-2, at No. 2 and juniors
Gracie Caplice (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's School) and
Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) claimed an 8-6 win at No. 3.
In singles, W&L won at the top three positions, plus No. 5, to claim its six match wins. Koziol defeated Ruth de Souza, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3, at the top spot, junior
Marta Mikos (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) downed Ana Patino, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 2 and Waters won by a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 score over Sofia Andrade at No. 3. First-year
Meagan Donovan (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) took home a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over Nikhita Simhambhatla at No. 5.
The Generals will be back in action this weekend in the Blue Gray Invite hosted by Mary Washington. Their first match will be Saturday at 10:00 am against No. 18 Kenyon.
