Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, 7-2, at the hands of No. 6 Sewanee on Sunday.
The Generals now stand at 3-1 overall this season, while the Tigers improve to 3-0 overall with the win.
Senior
Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La./Mount Carmel Academy) and junior
Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) picked up the two W&L wins on the day. Garcia came back against 46th-ranked Brooke Despriet, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), for the victory at the top singles position. Waters defeated Sarah Livingston, 6-4, 3-6, 11-9, at No. 5 singles.
The Tigers won all three doubles matches, dropping no more than five games in each, while Ansley Carpenter (4) and Natalia Nassar (6) won their singles matches in straight sets. W&L sophomores
Gabi Moss (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral) (2) and
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) (3) pushed their singles matches to three sets before ultimately falling to Alice Hall and Emma Smith, respectively.
The Generals will be back in action on Saturday when they host No. 16 Johns Hopkins at 2:00 pm.
