ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Ninth-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan posted a 7-2 victory over the 29th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals gave the Battling Bishops a tough match right from the start, taking No. 2 doubles behind the play of first-years
Will Kistler (Hilton Head, S.C. / Laurel Springs School) and
James Kurani (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence Day). They took down the duo of John Falke and Max Robinson by a score of 8-6. NCWC posted wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to carry a 2-1 lead into the singles action.
The Battling Bishops cruised to wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but Kistler notched his second victory of the day by knocking off JP Vallejo at the No. 3 position, 7-6 (2), 6-2. Junior
Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y./Chaminade) then gave Roberto Puig a close match at No. 4, before falling 7-5, 6-4. Kurani took Luca Knese to a third set at No. 6 before eventually dropping a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) decision.
Washington and Lee is now 0-4 on the season, while North Carolina Wesleyan improved to 6-1.
The Generals return to play on Tuesday when they travel to The Citadel for a 1:30 pm match.
