CLEVELAND Ohio – The 29th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team was defeated by second-ranked Case Western Reserve by a score of 8-1 on Sunday morning at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club.
The Generals couldn't gain much ground on the Spartans in doubles, dropping all three matches to start in an early 3-0 hole.
In singles action, W&L played a series of competitive matches at the back half of the lineup, with junior
Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y./Chaminade) defeating Diego Maza at the No. 5 position, 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3). Sophomore
Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) also played a tough match with Ajay Mahenthiran at No. 4 singles, before succumbing by a score of 6-3, 7-5.
With the win, CWRU improved to 3-1 on the season. W&L slipped to 0-3 with the loss.
Washington and Lee will return to the courts on Saturday with an 11:00 am match at ninth-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan.
