Men's Basketball Overthrows Royals in San Juan

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Washington and Lee University men's basketball will leave Puerto Rico with a 2-0 record in the Puerto Rico Clasico after an 86-72 win over University of Scranton on Tuesday evening.

The Generals (7-4) nearly doubled-up on the Royals (8-2) through the first half 49-26 and never looked back after the Blue and White took the lead at the 11:43 mark in the opening stanza.

W&L used a 15-point spurt that ended at the 2:44 mark off a Robert DiSibio (Sandy Hook, Conn. / Newtown) long-range basket to give the Blue and White a 43-24 advantage.

At 6:54, Richie Manigault (Stewartsville, N.J. / Phillipsburg) started the four minute scoring streak from the line, the guard was fouled on the other end of the court grabbing a defensive board.

The largest lead came at the half, a Harrell jumper outside of the paint as time expired.

Sam Wise (Winchester, Va. / Handley) added 12 points and six assists and Jack Lewis (Rockville, Md. / Sidwell Friends) recorded 13 points, the senior shot 66 percent from the field.

The Generals out-shot the Royals from long range, 11-of-25 (44 percent) compared to Scranton's 4-of-14 (28.6 percent).  In addition to strong shooting, W&L took care of the ball with single-digit turnovers and 18 second-chance points. The Generals owned the 36-20 boards differential, 10 of those came on the offensive side of the court.

The Blue and White will return to the court on December 29 and take on Vassar College in the opening game of the W&L Holiday Tournament.
