ROME, Ga. – Junior Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) and first-year Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) represented the Washington and Lee women's tennis team at the ITA Cup on Thursday, but fell in the first round of the doubles draw.
 
Carlton and Long faced off against Angel Le and Arianna Castellanos Calderon of Whitman College, and the W&L duo claimed the first set by a 6-2 score, which included four straight wins to close out the set. Carlton and Long then went up in the second set, 3-1, before Le and Castellanos Calderon won five games in a row to tie the match at one set apiece.
 
Le and Castellanos Calderon then took the third and final set by a 10-3 margin to win the match and advance in the tournament.
 
Carlton and Long will move to the consolation bracket and will play in two matches on Friday.
