Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 18 and top-seeded Washington and Lee women's tennis team claimed its 18th straight ODAC title and 30th in program history with a 5-1 win over third-seeded Sweet Briar on Sunday.
Leading the match by a 2-1 score heading into singles, W&L (14-2) sophomore
Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6, followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win from first-year
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) at No. 5 to put the Generals one win away from the title. Junior
Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) then clinched the match at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ruth de Souza.
In doubles, the Generals won the first two matches. First-year
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) and sophomore
Gracie Caplice (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's School) won at No. 3, 8-1, before Waters and first-year
Gabi Moss (Paradise Valley, Ariz. / Chaparral) won by the same score at No. 2.
Sweet Briar's (15-6) lone point on the day came via an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, as de Souza and Allison Wandling defeated Garcia and Carlton, 8-2.
The Generals earn the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. W&L has already been selected as a host for next weekend's opening rounds of the tournament, but will wait until the NCAA Selection Show on Monday to find the time and the opponent for its next contest.
