FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The 32nd-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision at 16th-ranked Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals surrendered a heart-breaking 8-7 (7) decision at No. 1 doubles, with the team of first-years
Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala. / Briarwood Christian) and
Harry Kittredge (Alexandria, Va. / The Field School) coming up just short against Moses Hutchinson and Andrew Watson.
The Eagles carried the momentum of a 3-0 advantage through doubles into the singles play where they were able to sweep all six matches. W&L dropped matches at No. 2 and No. 4 when junior
Alex Fedor (Salem, Ore. / South Salem) and Kittredge were forced to retire due to injury.
Washington and Lee is now 10-4 overall, while UMW improved to 7-2.
The Generals will be the top seed for the ODAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal match next Saturday against an opponent to be determined.
