Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 18 Washington and Lee women's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over Lynchburg on Friday evening.
With the win, the Generals improve to 9-2 overall and 8-0 in the ODAC, while the Hornets fall to 12-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
Four Generals went 2-0 in the match, led by junior
Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) and first-year
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian), who paired for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Garcia then defeated Christina Harris, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 1 singles, while Carlton earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alissa Anderson in No. 3 singles.
First-years
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) and
Nell Covington (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) teamed up for an 8-0 sweep of Grace Teefey and Alexa Hardesty in No. 3 doubles, and they both won their singles matches in straight sets. Koziol took a 6-2, 6-3 win over Elizabeth Teefey at No. 2 and Covington won, 6-0, 6-2, over Ellen Druebbisch at No. 5.
The Generals will return to the courts on Sunday when they host Randolph-Macon at 11:00 am in their final home match of the regular season.
