Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The No. 18 Washington and Lee women's tennis team suffered just its second loss of the season on Thursday in a 6-3 decision at No. 15 Mary Washington.
The Generals fall to 7-2 overall with the loss, while the Eagles improve to 9-2 overall with the win.
First-year
Gabi Moss (Paradise Valley, Ariz. / Chaparral) and sophomore
Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) earned an 8-7 win at No. 2 doubles, but the Generals trailed the Eagles, 2-1, heading into singles play. First-years
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) and
Kaitlyn Chalker (Kennesaw, Ga. / Rivers Academy) tallied the wins in singles for W&L, as Koziol (4) defeated Amanda Hagino, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-4 and Chalker (6) bested Olivia Moore, 6-2, 6-4.
Moss and first-year
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) took their singles opponents to three sets before falling. Moss fell at No. 3 by a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 9-11 score to Lauren Quinn and Carlton dropped a 6-2, 1-6, 2-6 decision to Hana Kimmey at No. 5.
The Generals will return to action on Friday when they host Shenandoah at 3:00 pm and Lynchburg at 5:00 pm.
