Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – The 18th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday at the Folkes Stevens Tennis Center at Old Dominion University.
Junior
Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) and first-year
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) contributed to two of the Generals' (6-1, 5-0 ODAC) five wins each on the day. The duo paired at No. 1 doubles and defeated Alexa Brewster and Audrey Bally, 8-1. Garcia then defeated Brewster, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Carlton bested Christine Zalameda, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.
First-year
Nell Covington (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles over Shannon Lewes to round out the W&L winners. Both Virginia Wesleyan (8-5, 7-2 ODAC) points came via forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
The Generals also take on Bridgewater today, looking for two wins on the day. That match got underway at 3:00 pm at Bridgewater.
