LYNCHBURG, Va. – The 32nd-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team stepped on the court for intercollegiate competition just one day over one calendar year and didn't miss a beat, downing home-standing Randolph College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Generals (1-0, 1-0) took their 16th-straight match over the WildCats (0-5, 0-2) buoyed by a sweep of the doubles competition for a 3-0 advantage. W&L's top doubles pairing of first-years
Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala. / Briarwood Christian) and
Harry Kittredge (Alexandria, Va. / The Field School) began their careers with an easy 8-0 victory over the top tandem from Randolph, and the No. 2 doubles team of junior
Alex Fedor (Salem, Ore. / South Salem) and sophomore
Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y. / Chaminade) notched an 8-2 win. Randolph defaulted at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, the Generals took the top five flights in straight sets, with Kittredge and classmate
Jonathan Molner (Atlanta, Ga. / Lovett) claiming victory without dropping a game. The No. 6 singles match was also defaulted by Randolph.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 1:00 pm contest.
