Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 18 Washington and Lee women's tennis team opened its 2020-21 season on Tuesday afternoon with a 9-0 ODAC win over Roanoke on the W&L Upper Courts.
The Generals (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) opened by sweeping doubles play, as senior
Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) and first-year
Gabi Moss (Paradise Valley, Ariz. / Chaparral) paired at No. 1 and defeated Lucy Collins and Halle Fernstrum, 8-0. First-year
Kaitlyn Chalker (Kennesaw, Ga. / Rivers Academy) and sophomore
Becket Waters (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) won at No. 2 by an 8-0 score over Margriet Bostoen and Olivia Maccluen, while No. 3 doubles was a forfeit win for W&L.
Moss won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 2 singles, while Marshall (1), first-year
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) (3), Waters (4) and junior
Claire Lacksen (Watkinsville, Ga. / Oconee County) (5) all won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0. No. 6 singles also resulted in a forfeit win for the Blue and White.
The Generals will return to the court on Saturday for two ODAC matches. The team will split between hosting Randolph-Macon at 1:00 pm and traveling to Emory & Henry for a 1:00 pm start.
