LEXINGTON, Va. – The 32nd-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the 2021 campaign on Sunday, falling to Christopher Newport by a score of 6-3 at the Upper Courts.
The Captains (4-1) swept through the doubles competitions to assume a 3-0 lead. The team of senior
Noah Tapp (Lexington, Ky. / Henry Clay) and junior T.J Rudden (Mountain Lakes, N.J. / Mountain Lakes) provided the stiffest resistance, falling by a score of 8-6 to the tandem of Matthew Dubuque and Scotty Hunter.
In singles play, three of the six singles matches went to a third set, with W&L (3-1) coming out on top in two of them. Tapp logged a 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 win over Dubuque at No. 5 singles and Rudden won 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Tyler Hyun at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore
Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y./Chaminade) also won in singles action, defeating James Baron by a score of 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 position.
The Generals are back on the courts on Thursday when they host Bridgewater for a 3:30 pm match.
