Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The No. 23 Washington and Lee women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 6-3 victory over No. 30 Christopher Newport on Sunday.
 
The Captains (0-3) edged the Generals (2-0) in doubles play, claiming wins at No. 1 and No. 3. But the Generals took five of the six singles matches to earn the win. Sophomore Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) defeated Olivia Reed, 6-2, 6-2, and senior Lily Horsley (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's School) outplayed Amanda Yermal, 6-1, 6-0.
 
Junior Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) was the third and final Generals to win her singles match in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1, over Reagan Delp.
 
The Generals will get back on the court on February 19, when they host Hollins at 5:00 pm in their first ODAC match of the spring.
