Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The 23rd-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee women's tennis team defeated Randolph, 5-0, on Saturday to advance to the 2019 ODAC Women's Tennis Championship match.
The Generals improved to 15-7 overall with the win, while the WildCats' season comes to a close at 12-8 overall with the loss.
Senior Mary Hampton McNeal (Beaufort, S.C./South Carolina Connections Academy) led the way for the Blue and White as she did not drop a game on the day. She and junior Anna Kreynin (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) paired in No. 3 doubles for an 8-0 win over Ranita Opoku-Sarfo and Hayley Ashford, before McNeal downed Lauren Appel, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 4 singles.
With the singles win, McNeal reached her 100th career win across all singles and doubles matches. She now holds a career record of 100-50 (.667).
Junior Lily Horsley (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's School) also contributed two wins on the day, teaming with sophomore Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) in No. 1 doubles for an 8-3 win over Keyu Jin and Ashley Schmitz. She then clinched the win for the Generals with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Savana Mata in No. 3 singles.
The Generals will look to clinch their 29th overall ODAC title on Sunday, 17th straight, when they take on the winner of the third-seed Randolph-Macon vs. second-seed Lynchburg match. The championship match will get underway at Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm.
