Box Score PITTSBURGH -- The No. 22 Washington and Lee women's tennis team suffered its first loss since March 30, a 5-4 decision to No. 10 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday afternoon.
The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Generals, putting their overall record at 13-6, while the Tartans improved to 15-6 overall with the win.
Senior Mary Hampton McNeal (Beaufort, S.C./South Carolina Connections Academy) helped account for two wins on the day, pairing with junior Anna Kreynin (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) in No. 3 doubles to defeat Janabelle Wu and Alex Iordache, 8-5, before McNeal defeated Melissa Strome, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 5 singles.
First-year Georgia Wright (Austin, Texas/Regents School of Austin) and junior Gabby Moore (Davidson, N.C./William Amous Hough) posted one singles win each for the Blue and White, with Wright defeating Vinaya Roa in No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-7, 1-0) and Moore earning a 7-6, 6-1 win over Iordache.
The Generals will close out their regular season with one final road match at No. 13 Mary Washington next Saturday at 2:00 pm.
