Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 22 Washington and Lee women's tennis team earned its second win of the day and fourth in a row in a 7-2 decision over Randolph-Macon at home on Tuesday.
The Generals improved to 11-5 overall with the win and 10-0 in conference and handed the Yellow Jackets their first overall loss and conference loss of the season (9-1, 6-1 ODAC).
Sophomore Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and junior Lily Horsley (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's School) earned an 8-5 win in No. 1 doubles over Morgan Fuqua and Stephanie Yeager, while first-year Claire Lacksen (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County) and junior Gabby Moore (Davidson, N.C./William Amous Hough) defeated Kristin Dantzler and Landon Aud by the same score in No. 2 doubles.
Marshall, Horsley, Moore and Lacksen all claimed straight-set wins in singles, and senior Melinda Kauffman (Fuquay Varina, N.C./North Raleigh Christian Academy) added a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 4 singles over Aud.
The Yellow Jackets' two wins on the day came by default in No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, with Courtney Jenkins claiming the both wins with partner Isabel Wadsworth in doubles.
The Generals will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Emory & Henry in their final home match of the regular season. Play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
