HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's tennis team opened its 2019 spring season on Sunday, falling to Division I James Madison by a score of 6-1.
The Generals had two winners on the day, as the tandem of junior Mitchell Thomas (Houma, La. / Vandebilt Catholic) and first-year Bobby Neuner (Darien, Conn. / Darien) defeated JMU's Alvaro Arce and William Karpinski by a score of 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. Neuner also posted a 6-3, 0-6, 13-11 win over Tate Steinour at No. 5 singles for the Generals lone point in the contest.
Washington and Lee fell to 0-1 on the season, while JMU improved to 3-1.
The Generals return to action on February 21 when they travel to Shenandoah for a 7:30 pm contest.
