NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The No. 18 Washington and Lee women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to No. 24 Christopher Newport on Saturday.

First-year Georgia Wright (Austin, Texas/Regents School of Austin) earned a straight sets win, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 3 singles over first-year Amanda Yermal, while sophomore Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and senior Melinda Kauffman (Fuquay Varina, N.C./North Raleigh Christian Academy) won in three sets out of the No. 2 and No. 6 singles slots, respectively.

Marshall teamed up with junior Lily Horsley (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's School) in No. 2 doubles to earn to Generals' final team point over the Captains, an 8-1 victory over Yermal and first-year Reagan Delp.

The Captains improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Generals dropped to 0-2.

The Generals will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Randolph for their first ODAC match of the season. Play will get under way at 3:00 pm.
