Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team fell to 19th-ranked Mary Washington by a score of 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Anna Kreynin (Mequon, Wis. / Homestead) and senior Claudia Kesala (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) defeated Brittany McBride and Danielle Mirabella at No. 3 doubles. The Eagles won the remaining doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles action.
In singles, senior Michelle Fleenor (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Girls Preparatory School) claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kait Brogan at No. 1 singles. Senior Emily Kochard (Charlottesville, Va. / Western Albemarle) topped Caroline Mosberg 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4 singles, while sophomore Lauren Hassell (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) defeated Rachel Cooper, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. However, UMW won the remaining matches to reach the final margin.
The loss moves W&L to 15-7 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 17-4 overall.
This concludes W&L's regular season. The Generals return to action on Tuesday, May 1 when they participate in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinal match as the top seed. The time and opponent is to be determined.
