Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team fell to ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon by a score of 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Carnegie Mellon outdoor courts.
The Tartans claimed all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
Senior Michelle Fleenor (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Girls Preparatory School) claimed a 7-6, 6-2, 1-0 win over Cori Sidell at No. 1 singles, while first-year Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) topped Vinaya Rao, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Senior Emily Kochard (Charlottesville, Va. / Western Albemarle) posted a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 win against Katie Lai at No. 4 singles.
With the loss, the Generals drop to 10-4 overall, while CMU improves to 13-3 overall with the win.
Washington and Lee returns to action on April 15 when it travels to Guilford for a 1:00 pm match. The Generals will also travel to Bridgewater on the 15th for a 2:00 pm contest.
