LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 29th-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee men's tennis team easily defeated eighth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the W&L Upper Courts.
W&L surrendered just eight total games en route to sweeping the doubles competition for a 3-0 lead. The Generals then closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles by sophomore Zack Ely (Norwalk, Conn. / Brien McMahon) and a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles by first-year Mitchell Thomas (Houma, La. / Vandebilt Catholic).
With the win, W&L improved to 14-6 overall. Virginia Wesleyan ends its season with a 5-17 mark.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday in the ODAC semifinals, which will be hosted by Randolph-Macon. The Generals will take on fifth-seeded Hampden-Sydney at a time to be determined.
