NORFOLK, Va. -- The 25th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team dropped its first conference match since the 2010 season, falling to Virginia Wesleyan by a score of 5-4 on Sunday.
The Generals, who are still hampered by injuries, fell behind 2-1 following the doubles action and simply could not recover. Senior Thomas Johnson (Greenville, S.C. / Christ Church Episcopal), junior Will Bannister (Bath, England / Beechen Cliff School) and first-year Perry Clements (Tyler, Texas / All Saints Episcopal) all claimed singles wins, but it was not enough as the W&L regular-season conference winning streak was halted at 58-straight.
The victory improved Virginia Wesleyan to 13-5 overall and 8-0 in the ODAC. The Generals slipped to 11-5 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
W&L returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to top-ranked Emory for a 2:00 pm contest.
