LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 31st-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team recorded a 5-4 victory over 15th-ranked Mary Washington on Saturday at the W&L Upper Courts.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead following doubles and led 4-3 with two singles matches remaining. Junior Will Bannister (Bath, England / Beechen Cliff School) notched a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (14-12) win over Matt Miles at No. 5 singles to square the match at 4-4 and then senior Thomas Johnson (Greenville, S.C. / Christ Church Episcopal) posted a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 win over Patrick Hughes at No. 4 singles to lift the Generals to the win.
Mary Washington slipped to 7-4 with the loss, while W&L improved to 6-2 with the win.
The Generals return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Shenandoah for a 3:00 pm match.
