GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The 10th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team defeated 14th-ranked DePauw, 7-2, on Saturday at the ITA Division III National Team Indoor Championship hosted by DePauw.
Junior Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga. / Marietta) and first-year Tessa Hill (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) won at No. 1 doubles, 9-7, and sophomore Emily Kochard (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) and first-year Mary Hampton McNeal (Beaufort, S.C. / South Carolina Connections Academy) claimed No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-6 for the Generals to take a 2-1 lead into singles competition.
Donnelly went on to win No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, while Hill took No. 2 singles, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. Sophomore Michelle Fleenor (Chattanooga, Tenn. / Girls Preparatory School) logged a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles and McNeal claimed No. 4 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-3. First-year Melinda Kauffman (Fuquay Varina, N.C. / North Raleigh Christian Academy) earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles for the Generals.
With the win, the Blue and White improve to a 3-1 overall record. With the loss, the Tigers fall to a 2-3 overall record.
W&L returns to the court on Saturday when they take on 13th-ranked Washington-St. Louis. The match is set to begin at 7:30 pm.
