VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior duo Sonja Meighan (McLean, Va. / Flint Hill) and Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C. / Ashley Hall) earned their 62nd doubles team career win in the top-seeded Washington and Lee women's tennis team's 5-0 victory over fifth-seeded Bridgewater on Saturday in the semifinals match of the ODAC Tournament at Virginia Wesleyan.
Meighan and Kirkland downed Bridgewater's sophomore Maria Hawkins and senior Marla O'Bryan, 8-0, at No.1 doubles. The pair now has the most career wins in program history with 62. The previous team that held the number one spot in the W&L record book was Berry Blankenship '98 and Ericka Shapard '98, with 61 wins.
With the win, the Generals improve to 22-4 overall. The Eagles conclude their season with a 9-8 overall record.
Fourth-ranked W&L advances to Sunday's title match against either second-seeded Roanoke or third-seeded Randolph-Macon. The match will be at 1:00 pm.
