LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 21st-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team avenged an early-season loss to Mary Washington, knocking off the 22nd-ranked Eagles, 5-4, on Saturday at the W&L Courts.
The Generals dropped two of the three doubles matches, but recovered to win four singles matches to pick up the win. Sophomores Taylor Shamshiri (Austin, Texas / ATA College Prep) and Christopher Hu (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) posted straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
With the win, W&L improved to 18-5 overall, tying for the second-most wins in a season in program history. Mary Washington dropped to 14-11 with the loss.
Washington and Lee will now wait to see who it will play in the NCAA Tournament which begins on May 10-12.
