VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The 23rd-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee men's tennis team defeated second-seeded Bridgewater College in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship match for the second straight season by a score of 5-0 on Sunday at Virginia Wesleyan College.
The conference title was W&L's fourth straight and 32nd in the 37 years that the ODAC has awarded a team championship trophy.
The Generals dropped just three games in doubles competition, sweeping No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by scores of 8-0. In singles, sophomore Christopher Hu (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) and first-year Brian Krouskos (Alpharetta, Ga. / Mount Pisgah Christian) were the first two to close out their matches and give W&L the title. Hu won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while Krouskos posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
The victory improved W&L's overall record to 17-5, just one win from tying the 2008 and 1975 teams for the second-most wins in program history. The 2007 squad holds the mark with a 20-3 record. Bridgewater fell to 14-8 with the loss.
The Generals earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which will begin on May 10-12 at selected on-campus sites. W&L returns to action on May 4 with a home match against 25th-ranked Mary Washington at 2:00 pm.
