VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The 16th-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee women's tennis team advances to the ODAC Championship match after defeating fifth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan, 5-0, on Saturday at The Everett Tennis Center.
The Generals swept all three doubles matches to enter the singles round with a 3-0 advantage. Seniors Sallie Griffin (Warrenton, Va./Highland School) and Laura Simmons (Phoenix, Md./Bryn Mawr) then won at the No. 5 and 6 singles positions, respectively, to claim the victory.
With the win, W&L improved to 17-5 on the year, while the Marlins ended their season with an 11-12 overall record.
The Blue and White now advance to the ODAC Championship game on Sunday, where it will face the winner of the No. 2 Roanoke/No. 3 Hollins match at 1:00 pm.
