LEXINGTON, Va. – Top-seeded Washington and Lee took down eighth-seeded Guilford, 6-0, in the ODAC Women's Tennis Tournament Quarterfinals on Sunday at the W&L Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Generals breezed through the doubles round, dropping just three points to go into singles with a 3-0 advantage. W&L then took victories at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles to claim the 6-0 decision.
Seniors Sallie Griffin (Warrenton, Va./Highland School) and Christina Douglas (Fayetteville, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill), and junior Chelsea Mixson (Beaufort, S.C./Hilton Head Prep) each recorded two wins on the day. Mixson partnered with classmate Claire Cahill (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while notching her second win at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Griffin teamed up with sophomore Allison Hupalo (Weston, Mass./Weston) at No. 2 doubles to win, 8-1, and then she claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. Douglas joined senior Jen Hall (Metairie, La./Metairie Park Country Day School) at No. 3 doubles, winning with an 8-1 score, and she also registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
With the win, W&L advances to the ODAC Semifinals to be held on Saturday on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan. It will face the winner of the No. 4 Bridgewater/No. 5 VWC match at 1:00 pm.
