CLAREMONT, Calif. – The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 match to second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday evening at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

The Generals went down, 2-1, early on in the doubles flight, with their only win coming at the No. 2 spot. Sophomore Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and junior Cameron Dorsey (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) teamed up to defeat Crystal Lim and Sarah Kukino, 9-8. 

In singles action, the Generals claimed victories at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles, but was not able to complete a comeback as the Athenas took the wins at No. 1, 5 and 6.

Buell earned her second win of the day at No. 2 singles, taking down Caroline Ward, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Sophomore Patricia Kirkland (Charleston, S.C./Ashley Hall) notched a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kukino at No. 3, and sophomore Allison Hupalo (Weston, Mass./Weston) registered the No. 4 singles win, 6-3, 6-0, against Crystal Lim. 

W&L fell to 15-5 overall with the loss, while CMS improved to 25-0 on the season.

The Generals return to the courts on Sunday, when they host Guilford for the ODAC quarterfinal round on Sunday at 11:00 am.
