LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 26th-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team knocked off 16th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan by a score of 7-2 on Sunday.
The Generals took all three doubles points, led by the top tandem of sophomore Taylor Shamshiri (Austin, Texas / ATA College Prep) and first-year Michael Holt (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin), who defeated Artsiom Prostak and Robert Kjellberg, the top-ranked duo in the Atlantic South Region. The score was 9-8 (7-5).
In singles, W&L was paced by senior Hayden White (Baltimore, Md. / Towson), who won his 13th consecutive match by downing Kjellberg, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5). Kjellberg is currently the top-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region.
The win improved the Generals to 13-4 overall, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 9-7 overall.
Washington and Lee returns to action on April 14 when it hosts Franklin & Marshall for a 12:00 pm contest.
